He was born and raised in Hoopeston, Illinois, but lived in Gadsden, Alabama for nearly fifty years.
His wife, Laura Slichenmyer, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughter Beth Bailey and her husband, Eddie. Known to friends as Slick, he loved golfing, gardening, and roaming the aisles at Lowes.
He was resilient until the end, maintaining his independence with little help and continuing to help others, too. After a private service at St James Catholic Church, the family invites close friends for a visitation at the home from 4-7 p.m. Jim will be laid to rest with his wife, Laura, in the Columbarium at St James Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Westbrook Christian School or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to Jason and Leslie Kimbril (Sam, Andrew, and Emma Kate), Brandon and Mindy Daffron, JoAnn Taylor, and Sharon Wagner.
