

Born on July 8, 1951, to Leslie and Hazel Howington, Janet lived a life rooted in faith, love, strength, and devotion to her family and community.
Janet attended Emma Sansom High School and later worked for the City of Gadsden in Parks and Recreation, where she served faithfully for many years. She was known for her strong work ethic, fierce independence, and caring spirit.
A woman of deep faith, Janet loved God and cherished every moment spent with her family. She had a passion for gardening and found joy in watching hummingbirds flutter around her flowers.
Janet traveled extensively throughout the world, but one of her favorite places was Cades Cove, where she found peace and beauty in the mountains she loved so dearly.
Janet never met a stranger and had a gift for making people feel welcome. She especially loved feeding others and took pride in making sure her family was always well fed and cared for. She was generous with her wisdom and advice, always ready to help those she loved. Her strength, resilience, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Hazel Howington; her beloved granddaughter, Alyssa Jade Simmons; her sisters, Lisa Ann Dorrough and Joan Marie Tilley; and her nephew, Scott Tilley.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Stacy (Will) Hall and Karen (Jeff) Munos; her son, Michael Simmons; her granddaughter, Leslie (Devon) Hall; her grandson, Josh (Abby) Hall; her sister, Linda (Randy) Patty; her brother, Kenneth (Shannon) Howington; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Simmons, Josh Hall, Steve Simmons, Gary Fox, Will Hall, Kenneth Howington, Jason Patty, and Brandon Dorrough.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Amedisys Hospice as well as the many friends and family members who offered love, support, and care during this time.
A Celebration of Life service will be officiated by David Carroll on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 5:00 PM at North Gadsden Community Church, located at 104 Vanderbilt Avenue, Gadsden, Alabama. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
