Joel Richard Dorries age 65 was born April 25, 1956. He was an Alabama native and a long time Weaver resident. Joel retired from the United States Army as a Sargent First Class after proudly and honorably serving his country for 21 years. His assignments included Alaska, Germany, Washington State, Dahlonega Ga, and Panama Central America. Joel loved God, his family, video games, his family, Alabama Football, his family, southern gospel music, his family, blacksmithing, his family, fishing, and last but not least his FAMILY. Joel is preceded in death by his father George Alton Dorries of Alexandria Al, and his mother Barbara Ann Pisacrita of Joppa Al. Joel was the coach, leader, and mentor of the family. He impacted everyone that he came in contact with and had a way with making everyone feel like family. He also had a very unique ability in making people feel like they mattered, were heard, and were loved.
Elke Alles Dorries 58 was born June 4 1963 in Berschweiler Germany. She was a long time resident of Weaver Alabama. While in Germany she studied as a chef. That would be the line of work that she would remain in until her retirement in 2019. The majority of that time she worked for Sodexho Marriott in their Jacksonville State University location. Elke loved God, her children, her grandchildren, her great grandchildren, her family, her friends/family, strangers/family, cooking, animals, crocheting, and she was a lover of all things beautiful. Elke is preceded in death by her mother Renate Alles and sister Sonja Alles. Elke had an eclectic smile that could light up the room. To say she could command a room when she was present is an understatement. Her favorite phrase, “oh my stars”, to anything that surprised her is known to many. Elke never met a stranger, she loved taking care of people, and always made people feel like they were family. She too had a unique ability in listening to people and making them feel like what they were saying was important. She made people feel like they mattered regardless of who they were and what was going on in her own life.
The marriage between Joel and Elke was a perfect union. Two hearts came together to form a phenomenal family full of love that will last generations. Joel and Elke were married on 07/24/83 in Elkes home town in Germany. They lived happily together as husband and wife for 38 years. They built a wonderful life together spanning almost four decades and three continents. They traveled the world, laughed, cried together, and loved stronger than most. Together they raised 5 children never questioning their sanity, because to them, they raised them in the eyes of God. I can attest to the fact that it wasn’t made easy on them. They served God, their family, and their community without ceasing. Joel was a Mason and they were both in the order of the eastern star; however, they never missed an event for one of their kids. They touched so many people while here on Earth and they will be loved and missed for many years to come.
