John Marvin Bates

A memorial service to honor his life will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday February 10, 2018 at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Attalla. The family will receive friends for visitation for two hours prior to the service Saturday, from 12 Noon until 2 P.M.

John was an employee with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for more than twenty years. After leaving Goodyear he worked for Dixie Pacific where he stayed for several years, ending his tenure there in a management position over the fiberglass department. John had a life filled with family and football, hunting and humor. He loved his kids, and was so very proud of all their accomplishments and the people they had grown into. He will be remembered as big-hearted and funny, a true Alabama fan and outdoorsman, that never met a stranger. Mr. Bates was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley Bates and Mary Frances Bates.

He leaves behind;

Son, Todd Bates (Natalie).

Daughter, Tara Bates (Tyson Childers).

Sister, Martha Powell (Ben).

Nieces, Elizabeth and Claire.

Nephew, Benjamin.

Along with a host of extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to; Children's Hospital of Alabama at www.childrensal.org, Disabled American Veterans at www.DAV.org or to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund at www.nleomf.org or you may obtain the donation packets through the funeral home.

Honorary pallbearers will be the long-time friends of Attalla Duck Hunters Club.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff for their compassionate care and also to the many friends that visited John during his illness and offered your thoughts and prayers to our family.
