John Wesley Battles Sr.

A graveside service will be at 12:00 pm Friday, December 18, 2020 at Samuel's Chapel Cemetery for John Wesley Battles Sr., 86, who passed away and December 13, 2020. Rev. Freddie Keener will officiate.

Mr. Battles graduated from Altoona High School in 1952 and served in the U.S. Army in Killeen, Texas as an M.P. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company with 42 years service. He loved gardening and dirt car racing. He enjoyed his family, loved and was proud of all of his grandkids and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, E.E. Battles; mother, Annie Smith Battles; son,

Frankie E. Battles; brother, James Battles and sister, Minnie Jo Mayo.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Frances Battles; daughter, Cynthia McLain- Boyles (Al); son, John W. Battles Jr. (Susan); grandchildren, Joshua Wesley Battles (Michelle); Allison Grimes (Austyn); great grandchildren, Jacob Battles, Aiden Grimes, Brayden Grimes, Lilah Battles, Parker Grimes; brothers, Ernie Battles (Terry), Don Battles(Teresa), numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Battles, Austyn Grimes, Joey Wallace, Lee Adams, Billy Wallace, Keith Battles, Ronnie Battles.

Honorary pallbearers Dirt Track Racing Community.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude's Hospital.
