

John Lancaster Spalding passed away on Saturday, October 30. He is survived by his devoted wife Patricia (nee Putman), his son Martin John, daughter Laura, granddaughter Molly, grandson Christopher, great grandson Brysen and his brother Leonard III, all of whom he cherished. John also leaves many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and in-laws who also mourn his passing and will truly miss the fun and happiness John brought to his entire family. His loving parents Leonard Spalding Jr and Natalie (nee Whitaker), and his sister Louise predeceased him.
John graduated from Tulane University with a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1967 and in 1969 from the University of Michigan with a master’s degree in business. He served as a lieutenant in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971, during which time he met his beloved future wife, Patricia who worked at Fort McClellan, where John was stationed. He was employed as a certified public accountant with Arthur Anderson and Touche Ross Niven and Smart before a lifelong career as a financial manager in a number of real estate management firms. He was a proud member of Gum Springs Baptist Church in Ashville, Alabama and found much solace and comfort in the friendship and fellowship of his church family.
Funeral services will be held at Gum Springs Baptist Church on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at noon until service time. Morgan Funeral Chapel directing.
