Joys Morgan Peterson

Joys Morgan Peterson, age 82 currently of Wellington passed away Monday, April 4, 2022. Funeral Service will be at 1p.m. Friday, April 8, 2022 at Morgan Funeral Chapel with Bro. Jimmy Bailey officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 11a.m. until 1p.m. Burial will be at Piney Grove Cemetery in Grove Oak, AL.

Joys was born and raised in Grove Oak, AL. At an early age Joys had a love for country music. She starting singing as a child with her sister, Loreda. Soon they became the Morgan Sisters. At age 6 Joys and her sister got their first paid gig.

She was a graduate of Geraldine High School and studied Business Law in college. She continued to peruse her passion for music later in life as she sang and traveled in The Norm Peterson Road Show. Joys met and sang with numerous musicians such as Johnny Paycheck and Marty Robbins. Joys even sang in the Little Grand Old Opry and had a number 1 record in Canada.

After her brother Glenn Morgan built Morgan Funeral Chapel in Attalla. Joys began working as Office Manager and soon became an essential role in growing the family business. She worked for over 20 years there and retired in 2014. Joys touched the hearts of many families that came through the funeral home over the years. Previous and current employees looked up to Joys and respected her firm and “Tell it like it is!” attitude.

Her career was always very important to her but her passion was her family. She was “Mom” to just about everyone in the family but “Granna” her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandson, Peyton that lived next door and loved running to her any chance he got for their daily pillow fights.

Joys was preceded in death by her parents, George and Josie Morgan; sons, Jimmy Painter and Jason Peterson; brother, Glenn (Kathleen) Morgan; sister, Sunny Gail Morgan; grandson, Jory Olson; and nephew, Brian Kelly Beaty.

She is survived by her son, Briggs Hatley; daughter, Sharon (Danny) Alexander; brothers, Billy (Gwenda) Morgan and Don Morgan; sister, Loreda Morgan Vest; daughter in law, Lacey Peterson; grandsons, Peyton Peterson, Barry (Elizabeth) Alexander; granddaughter, Ashley Alexander; great grandsons, River Alexander and Brody Alexander; nieces, Linda Beaty, Sherry (Jeff) Harmon; nephews, Greg (Tonya) Beaty, Sam (Pamela) Morgan, Marty (Charlotte) Morgan, Tony (Jessica) Morgan, and Michael (Amanda) Morgan; along with numerous great nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Sam Morgan, Marty Morgan, Tony Morgan, Michael Morgan, Greg Beaty, Larry Helminick, and Art McGill.
