Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday May 26, 2018 at Gallant Road Baptist Church for Katherine “Mimi” Thompson Woodard, 92, Attalla who passed from this life Thursday, May 24, 2018. Revs. Mark Martin and Harold Coe will officiate. Burial will be at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. Morgan Funeral Chapel in charge.
Ms. Woodard was born in Blount County, AL on February 3, 1926 to Freeman and Maude Killian Bowlen yet she had lived most all her life in Etowah County. She was a faithful member of Gallant Road Baptist Church and loved the fellowship at the breakfast the church served the second Sunday of each month. Ms. Woodard loved working in her flower beds and mowing her lawn which she did until 2 years ago. She was preceded in death by her husbands, J. H. Thompson and Harvey Woodard and her son Donald R. “Duck” Thrasher, brother, Buddy Bowlen and sisters, Pauline Wood and Gussie Blackmon.
She is survived by her children: Janie (Tim) Brown, Attalla, and Michael (Cecilia) Thompson, Southside; 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren, 1 nephew: Wayne (Debbie) Wood, Steele, and several special cousins.
Pallbearers will be: Charles Abercrombie, Jimmy Abercrombie, Howard Daniel, Wayne Wood, Jerry Cline, Perry Cline, Edward Lee
Honorary pallbearers: Class of 1943, Etowah High School; members of Gallant Road Baptist Church; friends from the former Diane’s Cafe in Steele
Special thanks to Dr. K. J. A very special thank you to Mother’s caregivers, Celia Ball, Megan Bryant, Becky Free, Judy Buchanan, Misty Nance and Jean Steele. They will forever remain in our hearts for the outpouring of love they gave not only to Mother but us as well. Mother also loved her preacher, Brother Mark Martin, and we thank him for his endless encouragement and sharing of God’s love during this time.
Mother was most proud of her oldest granddaughter, Cindy Ensign, who stepped up when needed most, daily, doing whatever her “Mimi” asked for and needed.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday May 25th. The body will lie-in-state at the church for 1 hour prior to the service.
