Lesley served under the Army during the Vietnam War serving as a vital communicator in the war. After Honorable Discharge, Lesley went on to become a Railroad Engineer until he retired way past time than he should have.
Lesley is predeceased by his parents, Nettie and Auburn Portwood, in addition to his ex-wife and mother of his children Linda, son Daniel, his brother Eugene, sister Glo, and loved one Belinda. Survivors include two siblings Gay-Dan and Rita-Lynn, daughter Stephani and granddaughter Courtney, as well as nephew Van, and nieces Kristy and Tanya.
Lesley was tough as nails, he fought through and endured many battles through the loss of loved ones, multiple heart surgeries, including gallbladder and pacemaker right after losing his son, along with prostate cancer. Even through all the pain and turmoil he kept a smile on his face and still made sure everyone else was taken care of and wouldn’t let people worry about him. He was a selfless man with a heart of gold always looking out for his loved ones, he would give the shirt off his back if someone needed it, that was just the kind of man he was.
A Celebration of his life will be held on Friday, May 5th at 11:00 am at Morgan Funeral Chapel, in Attalla Alabama with burial immediately following at Rainbow Memorial and after service lunch will be provided for friends and family to join with us at church after.
Morgan Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.morganfuneralchapel.com for the Portwood family.
