Mr. Lonnie E. Lankford

Born in Gadsden, Alabama, Lonnie was the beloved son of the late Lonnie Doyle Lankford Jr. and Clara Elizabeth Graham Lankford. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Lonnie D. Lankford Sr. and Ludie Mae Lankford, and Ensley and Clara Graham.

Lonnie was a proud graduate of the University of Alabama and enjoyed a long career as a dedicated bookkeeper before retiring.

As a teenager and young adult, Lonnie spent many happy days cattle farming on his parents' farm, where he developed a lifelong appreciation for hard work and the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and relaxing with his favorite western television shows, especially Gunsmoke. He loved the beach and always looked forward to family beach trips, where enjoying a plate of crab legs was one of his greatest simple pleasures. He was also an avid cat lover, earning the affectionate title of "cat collector" from his grandchildren because of the many cats he welcomed into his home.

Family was the center of Lonnie's life. He treasured every opportunity to help and encourage his grandchildren and took great pride in watching them grow. One of his family's favorite traditions was gathering each New Year's Day to enjoy the collard greens that Lonnie lovingly prepared, a meal that brought everyone together and created lasting memories. His quiet generosity, dependable nature, and unwavering love for his family will be remembered always.

He leaves behind his devoted wife, Patricia Lankford; his daughter, Nancy (Michael) Lovoy; his son, Kevin Lankford; and his cherished grandchildren, Lindsay Lovoy, Lauren (Zyler Higgins) Lovoy, Justin Lovoy, and Leah Lovoy. He is also survived by his Uncle Jack (Faye) Lee and his Aunt Linda Martin, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Riverview Hospital's 3rd Floor, Dr. Bailey, and ProHealth Hospice for the exceptional care and kindness shown to Lonnie during his final days.
