Mary Frances Battles

Mary Frances Battles, age 85, of Attalla, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022. Funeral services will be held at Morgan Funeral Chapel & Crematory on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at 12 p.m. with Pastor Freddie Keener officiating. Visitation for friends will begin at 11 a.m. Burial at Samuels Chapel Cemetery in Altoona.

Mrs. Battles was a lifelong resident of Etowah County and graduated from Altoona High school. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved to cook. She admired her flowers and watching birds. She was a long-time member of Samuels Chapel Methodist Church.

Preceded in death by: Her husband of 68 years, John Wesley Battles Sr; father, W.C. Johnston; mother, Fannie Mildred Johnston; son, Frankie E. Battles.

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia McLain Boyles (Al); son, John W. "Chip" Battles Jr. (Susan); grandchildren, Joshua Battles (Michelle), Allison Grimes (Austyn); great-grandchildren, Jacob Battles, Aiden Grimes, Brayden Grimes, Lilah Battles, Parker Grimes; numerous nephews and nieces; and chosen daughter, Bridgette Speight.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Hospital.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Battles, Austyn Grimes, Ronnie Battles, Tim Bowlin, Joey Wallace, and Lee Hall.
