Mary Jane Quinn

Born in Atlanta, Georgia and a lifelong resident of Attalla, AL, Mary Jane was the daughter of Thomas Clyde Blackstone and Dorothy Evelyn Thompson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Shirley Hale; and her husbands, Perham “Pete” Hampton Butler, Jr. and Bill E. Quinn.

Mary Jane devoted much of her life to caring for and helping others. She worked as a Head Start teacher and later with the Project FIND program at CED Mental Health Center, where her gentle nature and desire to help others were reflected in her work. She was also actively involved in her community through the Gadsden chapter of Pilot International and was a devoted member of Attalla First United Methodist Church.

Mary Jane was soft-spoken with an extraordinary capacity for kindness. She did not seek attention for the things she did for others; she simply noticed when someone needed help and did what she could. She was a loving and devoted caretaker to her family and friends, and especially to her husbands. Her life was marked by a quiet generosity and a willingness to care for the people around her.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Alice (John) Allen of Marietta, GA and her beloved grandchildren, David and Evelyn Allen.

A memorial service celebrating Mary Jane’s life will be held Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Attalla First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mary Jane’s memory to Attalla First United Methodist Church.
