As J.J. said, Derek was always smiling and was genuinely an incredibly nice and caring person. I was looking at the pictures from our recent reunion and was so happy that he was there, and also sad that I had missed him. When we'd see each other in public, he always beat me to the punch of asking how I was doing before I could ask him the same question. He was truly genuine in every way.

He was such an ass going to me and my husband while we always enjoy talking to him and teaching them sorry to hear about this

I always remember him smiling. Derek Ward was a very good guy, he always seemed to be in a good mood whenever I saw him, which was something I admired and wished I could emulate. And I think what everybody remembers about him more than anything was that he was a Christian, as much a Christian as anybody I've ever known. He loved God and he loved his family, and that love was returned just as strong. Rest in peace sir, the hardest part is over.

I loved my cousin Derek. He was a good Christian young man. He loved his parents and loved so many of his family members. I will miss him so very much. My heart hurts for the living, but I know Derek was a sweet, compasionate young man who loved so many people that his life crossed paths with. May we find peace in God from our loss. Love to all!!!

I had the privilege to work with this sweet soul, many years ago...we were just teenagers....he was ALWAYS a gentleman and a kind human!! I would see him from time to time when I came home from working out of state. Heaven gained a good one....Rest Easy, Friend!!
I pray a prayer of comfort at this time for his parent's, family members, and friend's!! May God give strength and comfort during this time!! Amen!!

Derek was my friend every time I saw him in town or at church he spoke to me. He loved the Lord and his friends and family. Always had something encouraging to say to me. I will miss my friend and I hope that his family can be encouraged by the fact he may have had his struggles but he was always an encouragement if to no one else but me. I pray for him to Rest In Peace for now he is in the hands of a just God full of grace and mercy. I hope I will see my friend again in heaven, no one knows what the last moments held for him but God has him now. Rest In Peace my friend.
