There’s a famous Shakespeare quote that reads, “Though she be but little, she is fierce,” and that’s a perfect way to describe Nellie West. MawMaw, as she was known by most, was small in stature but she was big in heart. To her family she was both a shield and a sword who weathered many of life’s storms so her children and grandchildren would never feel the burden. There is nothing she loved more than her family, and there isn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them. She enjoyed playing bingo and taking trips to Georgia to buy lottery tickets hoping to one day share her winnings with those she loved. Although our hearts are heavy, we are comforted because we know she finally won the ultimate prize. She’s at peace in the arms of her beloved children who departed this world before her and has left a lasting legacy of love that will carry on in generations of her family for years to come.
