She was born October 31, 1932 to her late parents Odis Lamar & Hattie Clyde Minton of Piedmont AL. She met and married Coy - the love of her life - in Birmingham, before settling in Tuscaloosa in the late 1950’s. Nellie devoted her life to raising her two sons, and serving the Lord with her husband in numerous roles at Alberta Baptist Church, where she worked as a church secretary. Both Nellie and Coy touched many lives for the good as they shared their love and devotion to God there for over fifty years.
Nellie developed a well-deserved reputation as a fabulous maker of home-cooked meals and baked goods. She loved to share her talents with family, friends and even people she did not know. Nellie was a kind and caring friend, loving wife, wonderful mother, proud grandmother, and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Nellie was preceded in death by her brother Thomas Minton, sisters Ann Boatwright and Kay Young. She is survived by her sons Bruce Wood (Leigh) and Paul Wood (Kathleen) along with grandsons Andrew Wood and Stewart Wood. She also survived by six sisters Betty White, Elsie Gaddy, Carolyn Minton, Jeanette Ray, Rita Parker, and Treva Hanvey and one brother Eddie Minton.
The family would like to thank all those who served special roles in caring for Nellie after the passing of Coy in 2006, including Mack Boatwright, Sue Flowers, Bill & Nicole Poole, Billy & Doris Barton, Dan & Linda Turner, Tim Eads and the staff of North River Village, Dr. Steven Lovelady, the staff of Arbor Terrace at Crabapple, the staff of Alpharetta Family Medicine, and Kindred Hospice. In addition, special thanks is given to the members of the Ruth Bible Class that loved and supported her over the years.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday June 21, 2018 at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Attalla, Alabama with burial to follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Steele, Alabama. Visitation will be held at the Chapel during the hour prior to the service. The Reverend Keith Pugh of Alberta Baptist Church will officiate the service.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Wood, Stewart Wood, Eddie Minton, Tim White, Tommy Hartline, and Doug Black.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Gideon’s International to aid in their purchase of Bibles for distribution, or to other similar charities dedicated to serving others.
