Pauline, affectionately known as everyone’s Little Nana, carried the warmth, resilience, and tenacious spirit of her Appalachian roots throughout her life. She found her greatest joys in the simple blessings around her — especially in her garden and home. She had a special love for tending her flowers, particularly her cherished rose bushes, which bloomed beautifully under her patient and devoted care. Her garden stood as a reflection of her nurturing heart.
Pauline was also well known for her baking. Her kitchen was often filled with the comforting
aromas of homemade cakes, pies, cookies, and other sweet treats made completely from scratch. Family and friends will always remember that no visit to her home was complete without something delicious waiting on the table. Her sweets weren’t just recipes — they were expressions of love. She would laughingly tell all the men they needed to learn to “push back their plate sometimes” while serving up double helpings of every treat.
Pauline shared a beautiful love story of over 70 years with her husband, David McDaniel. Their
marriage was built on deep affection, faith, laughter, and unwavering support for one another.
Even though she never wanted to stray too far from home, she traveled alongside David to Florida, Alaska, and every state in-between. Together, they created a life filled with treasured memories and meaningful adventures.
Above all, Pauline loved her family. Her daughter Tamela (Greg) and grandchildren Brittney
(Blake) and Hunter (Dedra). She treasured time spent with them and created a home filled with
warmth, kindness, and steady strength. Her gentle spirit and generous heart touched everyone
who knew her.
She is survived by daughter Tamela Herring (Greg), grandchildren Brittney Johnson (Blake) and
Hunter Herring (Dedra), sisters Margie Hanson and Mattie Bill Turner. She was preceded in death by her parents Bleve and Flora Ball, husband David McDaniel, and sisters Georgia Clark, Edna Pelfrey, and Irene Weaver.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests planting a rose bush or baking a favorite homemade dessert in her memory — a beautiful way to honor the life she so lovingly lived. The family also suggests in lieu of flowers a donation be made to Grace Bible Church, 3504 Rainbow Drive Suite D Box 134, Rainbow City, AL 35906.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered
