Robert is preceded in death by his mother, Muriel Brooks and his sister, Catherine Brooks Nelson. Robert leaves behind his beautiful wife of 59 years, Jan Adams Brooks, sons Richy ( Debbie) of Auburn, AL and Robin of Keener, AL, as well as 3 grandsons, Caleb, Connor and Cade Brooks, a brother, Clarence Brooks ( Dottie) of Birmingham, AL, an uncle, Dr. James Temple, of Dadeville, AL, a brother- in-law, Harold Bailey, Duck Springs, AL, and a sister-in-law, Edna Russell of Attalla, AL.
Robert attended high school in Sylacauga, AL where he continued to attend reunions throughout the years. Robert spent his career as a teacher and a coach in Oneonta, AL, Sardis, AL, Haleyville, Al and finished his career at Fort Payne High School in Fort Payne, AL. in 1991.
Robert was a beloved member of Keener Baptist Church where he served as a church deacon for many years. Serving the Lord through his church was very important to Robert. He enjoyed changing out the church sign, preparing the church for special events, putting out flags for National holidays, and singing in the church choir.
Robert continued his love for coaching through his oldest son, Richy who coaches at Benjamin Russell High School in Alexander City, AL. Robert rarely missed a baseball game and made sure to sit close to the dugout where he spent most of his coaching career himself. He felt “safe” as long as he could see “Home” plate. Now, Robert is “Safe” at “Home” with his Lord and Savior for eternity, where he worked so hard to be all of his life. He will be missed by the many people that he touched throughout the years. The family would like to recognize all former coaches and players who worked with Coach Robert Brooks, as honorary pall bearers.
A memorial service will take place on January 4, 2020, at 12:00pm with visitation two hours prior from 10:00am- 12:00pm at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Attalla, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Alabama Baptist Children’s Home, www.alabamachild.org.
