On Friday, January 13, 2023, Billie Ruth Free, 87, of Steele, Alabama, transitioned from this life into the next, joining her husband, James W. Free, parents, Will and Gelettie Gilchrist, and brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Flo Gilchrist, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Free is survived by her sons, Phillip (Felicia Boomer) Free; Lynn (Wanda Bradford) Free; and daughter Cindy (Paul) Alexander. Grandchildren, Joy Andrews; Kevin (Amanda Graves) Free; Jeremy Free; Mahalia Alexander and Brandon (Courtney Thompson) Alexander. Great-grandchildren, Madison Andrews; Jacob Small; Adrianna Gill; Mason Free; Isaiah Alexander and Norah Alexander. She is also survived by brother, Sammy (Pat) Gilchrist, sister, Mary (Ronnie) Stone, sister-in-law, Martha Deweese, and brother-in-law, Lewis Free and by many friends and relatives she loved well.
Mrs. Free was a 1953 graduate of Ashville High School and a member of Chandler Mountain Baptist Church. The service will be held at Chandler Mountain Baptist Church, Steele, AL, on January 18, 2023. Visitation will be at the church at 10:30 with the service to follow at 12:00. Brother Paul Alexander and Brother Danny Wise will be officiating.
Pallbearers will be Ken Burton, Keith Burton, Joey Cash, Brian Cash, Benny Deweese, Jason Green, and Brent Phillips
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregivers, Celia Haye and Ann Scott.
