

Born January 8, 1956 in Memphis, Tennessee, to Horace James Nuss and Ruby Hyatt Nuss, Steve grew up on Air Force bases, residing in Athens, Greece; Knob Noster, Missouri; and Columbus, Mississippi before his family settled in Steele in 1968. Steve graduated from Ashville High School in 1974 and later attended Gadsden State Community College.
Steve married his high school sweetheart, Pamela Ann Hollingsworth, on August 14, 1976. He worked for Anniston-Gadsden Paper Company/Janpak over 40 years, retiring in 2017 to spend more time with his grandchildren.
Steve was known for his love for his family, his outgoing personality, and his dedication to his church and community. Steve was an active member of Steele Baptist Church, serving faithfully in many roles over the years including Sunday School director and Chairman of the Deacons. He devoted countless hours to the Steele Baptist Church children’s, preteens’, youth, and bus ministries. He served the Steele community in many ways, including time on the Steele City Council and as PTA President of Steele Jr. High School. He delighted in music, books, baseball, strong coffee, and cheering on the Auburn Tigers. His greatest joys came from church service, working in the yard, and supporting his children and grandchildren in all their events.
He is survived by his mother, Ruby Hyatt Nuss; his wife of 49 years, Pam Hollingsworth Nuss; children, Krista Joy Nuss Bischoff (Kyle) and Steven Lee Nuss (Molly); grandchildren, Andrew Steven Nuss, Colton Lee Nuss, and Landry Gail Nuss; siblings Mike Nuss (Judy), Patti Nuss Shoemaker (Carey); mother-in-law, Janis Brothers Hollingsworth, and a host of much loved sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Horace James Nuss and his father-in-law, Lewis Spurgeon Hollingsworth.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 5 at 1:30 PM at Morgan Funeral Chapel, with a funeral service immediately following at 3:00 PM. Bro. Blake Champion will officiate. Pallbearers: Steven Nuss, Andrew Nuss, Scott Countryman, B.J. Price, Brad Roberson, and Payton Shoemaker. Honorary Pallbearers: David Countryman, Benjamín Nuss, Mike Nuss, Carey Shoemaker, Tyler Shoemaker, and Danny Smith.
Steve’s family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kevin Lee at the Gadsden Cancer Center and the hematology and oncology team at Hematology and Oncology Associates of Alabama who cared for Steve throughout his illness.
Steve will be greatly missed and forever remembered for his generosity, courage, strength, faith, and unwavering love for those around him.
