Teddy Ray Thompson

Funeral Services for Teddy Ray Thompson, Sr., age 73 of Ashville who passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021, will be held at Morgan Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. David Mathews officiating. Burial will follow at Ashville Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, October 25, 2021 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

Teddy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He loved his family especially his grandchildren. He was a die-hard Alabama football fan and enjoyed fishing and watching old westerns including Gun Smoke. He worked as a truck driver for Piggly Wiggly/Alabama Distribution for over 36 years before retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Marvin and Mary Lou Thompson; brother, James Hershel Thompson; wives and mothers of his children: Janice D. Thompson and Marilyn K. Thompson and brother-in-law, Hulan Hargis.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila Layfield Thompson; children: Teddy Ray Thompson, Jr. (Alecia), Jennifer Moore, Amy Mathews (David), Kim Jones, Ashlei Goodwin (Junior), Timmy Thompson, Michelle Greene (Jeff) and Katie Franklin; 15 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sisters: Gayle McKay (Randy, Sr.) and Brenda Hargis and a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Pallbearers will be Josh Thompson, Chase Moore, Kallyn Peoples, Cody Mathews, Randy McKay, Jr. and Joel McKay.

Honorary pallbearers: Jeff Greene, Jon Constant and Chris Bowlin.

Special thanks to the Drs. and nurses in SICU at St. Vincent’s Hospital.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mr. Thompson’s memory to St. Jude Children’s’ Hospital.
