Visitation for Ms. Hyfield will be held at the Church of Love from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Altoona-Walnut Grove Cemetery. Officiates are Tammy Chapman, Jared Chapman and Teresa Chapman.
Thelma was a faithful member of the Church of Love. She worked at the chicken plants, a sewing plant and Miss Martha’s Originals before retirement. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend; who was known to everyone as “Granny”. Thelma helped to raise several grandchildren, and one great grandson, Eric Perrin. She cooked for the sick and took many in to care for, and she was “The Best” banana pudding maker ever. Thelma loved the beach, her pets, Goliath and Lucky; and every grandchild whether she saw them often or just on occasion. She was a God-fearing woman that loved like Jesus and was not ashamed to pray for those in need wherever they were.
Many wonderful things could be said and all would be true, but the best thing I could say about her was, She’s my Mom; and she was a faithful Christian to the very end.
She was preceded in death by her father, Willie Alexander; mother, Mae Alexander; son, Richard Hyfield; and grandson, Noah Hyfield.
Thelma is survived by her daughter, Teresa Chapman; sons, Donald Hyfield, Guy Hyfield Jr., and Henry Snipes; sister, Evelyn Sweatt; brother, Franklin Alexander; 27 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Zacharias Chapman, Harold Chapman, Timothy Swann, Joshua Hyfield, Dallas Gregerson, and Tyler Hopkins.
Honorary pallbearers are E.L. Chapman and Eric Snipes.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Compassus Home Health/Hospice, Walnut Grove Community, Church of Love family, all grandchildren that helped in every way, and her lifelong friend, Sister Doris Adams.
