

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Morgan Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Richard Cline and the Rev. O.B. Works Jr. officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Mr. Works proudly served his country for four years in the United States Army and for 34 years in the National Guard, retiring with the rank of First Sergeant. He also worked at the steel plant in Gadsden, retiring after 36 years of dedicated service.
He was married to the love of his life, Sandra, for 54 wonderful years. Mr. Works was an avid reader and especially enjoyed the companionship of his beloved dog, Smokey, who was always by his side.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Gail Works; parents, O.B. and Louise Works; son, Bryan Works; daughter, Cheryl Works; sister, Virginia Cline (the late Paul); and brother, Jerry Works.
He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Works; son, Shane Works; chosen daughter, Heather Bates; grandson, Justin Anderson; granddaughter, Hailey Rains (Katelyn); sister, Helen Abney (the late Terry); brothers, Danny Works (Debbie), O.B. Works Jr. (Brenda) and Glenn Works; and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving family members.
Family members will serve as pallbearers. Justin Anderson will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Flowers will be accepted.
The family extends a special thank-you to Gentiva Hospice and his bath aide, Jada, for their kindness, compassion and loving care.
