

Vernon was a proud graduate of Sardis High School, Class of 1958. On May 26, 1963, he married the love of his life, Priscilla Nadine Hampton Wofford, with whom he shared 52 wonderful years of marriage. Vernon honorably served his country in the United States Army Reserve for six years, earning the distinction of Specialist 5 and Sharpshooter.
He dedicated 32 years of his professional life to the Goodyear plant in Gadsden, where he served as an Area Manager. His hard work and excellence earned him recognition as a member of the Top Ten Club, placing him among the top-performing employees.
Vernon had a deep love for family and was especially fond of his many nieces and nephews. He enjoyed traveling, with favorite destinations including Branson, Missouri, and Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Vernon and Priscilla also gave back to their community by volunteering for several years at the Etowah Baptist Mission in Alabama City.
Vernon enjoyed watching sports and was a supporter of Alabama football and shared a friendly rivalry with his daughter, Melissa, who cheered for the opposing team. He will be remembered for his warm personality, strong work ethic, and love for those around him.
Vernon was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Priscilla N. Hampton Wofford; his father, Lloyd Wilburn Wofford; and his mother, Bessie Arizona (Gaskin) Wofford.
He is survived by his son, Wade H. Wofford; his daughter, Melissa A. Wofford; his sister, Martha A. Jones; his brother, James W. Wofford (Judy); as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his loyal canine companion, Peanut.
Pallbearers will be Chad Snead, Chuck Hampton, Dan Hampton, Anthony Wofford, Jeff Allen, and Ronnie Langley. Honorary pallbearer is Jack Hampton, Sr.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Thresea Epps, Neal Kidd, Bart Buchanan, Southern Care New Beacon Hospice, and the Gadsden Fire and Police Departments for their care and support.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Charles Smith. Interment will follow at Rainbow Memorial Gardens.
Vernon will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
