Leonard H. “Stocky” Stockmaster (88) passed away Friday, July 12, 2019 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio. Leonard was born on the family farm June 5, 1931 to Ralph and Irene (Mahl) Stockmaster of Willard (Havana). They are both deceased. Leonard lost his father when he was only 4 years old to an automobile accident. His mother was left with 3 children to raise as she never remarried. There were some very hard times in those years. He was a 1950 graduate of Attica Local High School. Leonard started working for the Attica Lumber Company and completed 48 years of carpentering as head boss retiring in 1996. They built houses and cabins at the Lake Erie area as well as a huge horse barn in Diamond, Ohio and a huge boat storage barn at the lake. He was sent out to build the first pole barn by his boss Fritz Miller in the late 1950’s, no blue prints or anything, but he figured out how to accomplish this, as he could find a way to fix anything. He was a great finisher for cupboards and wood work joints. He loved to be in his shop at home to build different items or to just tinker around. When the Knights of Columbus building was constructed he built the island, cupboards, and bar in his shop, then installed them in the hall. They fit perfectly. Leonard married his high school sweetheart: Cleona (Bollinger) Stockmaster June 19, 1954 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church (Our Lady of Hope, Attica) They were lucky to celebrate their 65th Wedding Anniversary Monday, June 17, 2019 by a surprise party planned by their daughters, son in law and grandson at their nephews restaurant, Brads Barbeque in Bellevue. He and his wife Cleona loved to put a large garden out every year and enjoyed mowing their large yard as well as playing cards especially euchre. He is survived by his wife Cleona (who joined the Catholic Church Easter Sunday, 1954) 2 daughters: Becky Goble and her son Bradley, and daughter Betsy (David) Latteman and one sister: Mary Elizabenth Wiesbrock of IL and many nieces and nephews and his special companion dog: Bambi. He was preceded in death by son: William Brian Stockmaster in 2002, brother: Donald Stockmaster and wife Evelyn, Brother in law Leonard Wiesbrock, Brother-in-law: Harold Bollinger and wife Margaret, Brother-in-law: Wayland Bollinger and wife Alice, Sisters-in-laws: Ruth Weinandy and husband Robert, Doris Spitler and husband Ralph and Iola Williams and husband Don. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church with Fr. Rev. Nathan Bockrath officiating. A rosary service will be held at 4:15 PM on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 with visitation being held from 5-8 PM at the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, 295 W. Tiffin Street, Attica. Mr Stockmaster was an amazing person and always made me feel welcome whenever I visited him and Cleona with his daughter Becky. I had the pleasure of knowing him thru Becky for many years. I also had the pleasure to attend their 65th anniversary and watch him enjoy his many friends and family. This memory will always be the most special as it was my last.
