Kaden Weimer-8yrs old, great-grandson of Alfred Spears, was very respectful to him. He listened quietly when great- grandpa spoke. At great-grandpa's funeral, he quietly explained to the other children, that great-grandpa's body was in the casket, but his soul was very happy in Heaven with Jesus.

Emmett Weimer-6yrs old, great-grandson of Alfred Spears, was very concerned about him being in a wheelchair. He would quietly observe great-grandpa and drew pictures of him in the wheelchair.  He drew a picture of great-grandpa standing beside his wheelchair, because that is how he would be in Heaven.

Both of the boys sang and played tamborines with their mom and dad, Eric and Sarah Weimer at the funeral.

Livia Weimer-4yrs old, great-granddaughter of Alfred Spears, was very sweet and loving to great-grandpa giving him hugs and kisses.

"When we go to heaven, I think we are kids again.  Grandpa is looking down on us and he's counting on us to do fun things and be good.  He wants us to have a great life and have a special heart.  Grandpa is celebrating his first time being in Heaven at his happiest place".

I will always remember the weekend trips to Grandma & Grandpa's and the excitement that came with it.  The smell of breakfast cooking in the morning, melted peanut butter butter on waffles.  Ping pong in the basement, croquette in the yard, trips to the lake, long walks and bike rides around the neighborhood, playing on the teeter totter, swimming in the pool, and hanging out in the living room and talking about anything and everything for hours.

Grandpa will always be the person I try to be one day when I'm a Grandpa.  He was exactly what a grandpa was supposed to be.  He made everyone around him happy because he was always happy. He was fun.  He made the most out of everyday.  He was hard working.  He was smart.  He was always positive.  He was funny.  He was a good guy.  He was Grandpa.

My Grandpa could do anything he put his mind to.  From building his house, creating beautiful landscapes, water-skiing, snow-skiing, working on cars, grafting an orange and lemon tree together, raising livestock, farming, preaching the Word of God, making amazing peanut butter waffles, and even saving his house from a brush fire....he could do anything, but those weren't his greatest accomplishments. His family, his ability to inspire others to do the impossible, and making his grandchildren and great-grandchildren giggle, smile, and feel loved were his greatest accomplishments.  I will never forget Easter egg hunts, teeter-totters, ping-pong ball, bocce ball, croquet, or the joy I felt when we turned right onto Ross Road, pulled into the driveway, watched Grandpa walk out of the house smiling, jumped out of the car as fast as possible, and ran into the outstretched arms of Grandpa.  Because we have faith, we have hope that we will ALL be greeted by Grandpa at the gates of Heaven again someday.

Simply said, grandpa was pretty cool.  I remember watching him water-ski and thinking to myself, "I hope I can still water-ski at his age."  Then I somehow turned into a wake-boarder...not sure what he'd say about that but he'd almost certainly say wake-boarders don't belong on the lake messing up his water.

Here's to hoping there's nothing but glass in heaven so we can share those joyous days on the lake together again.  

Grandpa's jokes and his silly hats always made me smile and his contagious laugh brightened many of my days.  I will always remember him most for his kind heart and unconditional love for all of his children and grandchildren.  I will miss grandpa the rest of my life, but I'm grateful he's left me with a beautiful gift:  his passion for life (and the lake!), unconditional love and positive outlook.  I love you grandpa.

Dad, My Hero!
He seemed bigger than life....It seemed to all of us as we were growing up that Dad knew everything, if you wanted an answer to something then all you had to do was ask Dad.  There wasn't anything he couldn't do or fix, it seemed.  Dad was always happy, he enjoyed life and was always making sure Mom was happy.  Dad never forgot any special day for Mom-Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Birthdays-he remembered them all and made them so special.

Dad like to get up early in the morning.  I remember him saying many times that if you didn't see the sunrise you missed the best part of the day.  I have one memory of a sunrise I shared with him when we were driving to Colorado.  Dad and I were the only ones awake and we were just in awe over the beauty of it.

As a little girl I loved it when Dad took his shower in the evening because after he shaved he put on after shave and he always smelled so good.

How cool is it when your Dad picks you up from kndergarten and has a Shedtland pony for you in the truck, now that's a good memory.  

I remember going with Dad to buy my first car.  We went to the car lot that had the car I wanted, a Mercury Capri.  To my surprise he handed me the keys and told me I was driving it home.  The thing was, it was a 4 speed!!  He showed me how to drive it and that was it.  That's how Dad was, he believed and had confidence that I could drive a 4 speed!  A similar thing happened when I went with Dad and Mom to choose our new motorhome and ski boat.  Dad had me driving this huge motorhome and boat in no time(( was 17) because he needed a back up driver!

As I said earlier, Dad and Mom did so many things, not much of anything they wouldn't try creatively.  They both made me a beautiful three-tier wedding cake for my wedding and Dad even made the macrame' hanger it hung in.

Dad was just always there for us for anything we needed, advice a lending hand-you name it he did it.  

I would say the number one thing Dad loved best was his family, he loved family.  He loved all his grandchildren & great grandchildren.  Nothing made him happier than to be around all of them.

He was a strict disciplinarian, if you did something wrong you knew you were in for it and he had no problem dealing with you.  We also knew that you were to always respect him and Mom and so we did.

Dad and Mom I will miss you both so much.  It is so hard to lose you both so close together, but thinking about it, well of course that is what you would do Dad, you have to be with Mom.  I will cherish all the memories of you both forever and you will forever be in my heart!  It gives me comfort to know you both are out of pain and are with God.  

Thank you both for giving me a wonderful life that I will forever be grateful to you for.  Goodbye for now Dad, I will see you again!

Grandpa has always been my hero!  There isn't a thing that man couldn't do!  Grandpa always had a smile on his face and a joke coming out of his mouth!  When I think of Grandpa, I think of his beautiful house he built and waffles with warm peanut butter and syrup!  Grandpa was the best example of how a man should be and work, and he passed that down to my dad and I forever thank him for it!  Thank you grandpa for always loving all of us so much and for being such an amazing man with the biggest heart.  Love you and hope you're dancing in Heaven with grandma!  I miss you guys so much!

When I think about grandpa the memories just flood in.  I think of the beautiful home he built, his perfectly landscaped yard, the teeter totter he had for us grand-kids, his swimming pool, water skiing, Easter egg hunts, Santa gifts, his sweet tooth ust like my dad's, switching hats, consistent sarcasm, the smell of fresh waffles with warm peanut butter and bacon, and potato salad with onions and another one without for the grand-kids. :)

Grandpa was such an amazing man.  I loved hearing the stories of him when he had a church of his own.  Perhaps it was his relationship with the Lord that always kept him so happy.  Nothing gave me more joy than to see the way his great grand-kids lit up his life.  His smile was bigger than ever when we would come to visit.  He always made sure to point out that they really were "great" kids not just his great grand-kids. Then he would turn to me and thank me for giving him such great grand kids.  He sure knew how to make me feel proud.  He was always so sweet.

I remember buying a brand new Ford and using his discount he got for retiring through Ford Motor Company....boy was he proud...and I tell you what, so was I.

I think the thing I loved the most about grandpa was what I realized about him after I grew up and was married with children of my own.  I realized that my grandma meant the world to him.   He did everything in the world to please her....no matter what.  He always wanted whatever she wanted and was always happy with that.  All because his happiness was in fact her happiness.  I love that so much because I am truly that same person.  I have always found my happiness in the happiness of my loved ones.  And for that grandpa, I owe you a lot.  Thank you for instilling in me how important your loved ones are without even speaking a word.

I will love you always and forever grandpa.  May you enjoy every moment with grandma now as you both dance around in Heaven.  My heart is heavy but so happy for you to be reunited with grandma.  May you rest peacefully until we meet again.

Oh yea, I almost forgot...Thank you for the most amazing father in the world.  He truly lives and breathes for us kids and his grand-kids.  I wonder where he got that from!?

Love Always

Grandpa Spear's house was always such an oasis as a child.  In fact, thinking of it now I can't help but smile.  I have many memories of the road trip there when I would be anxiously awaiting his huge hug, flashing smile, and "Why are you reading my cap?!"  hats.  From the moment we got there, to the moment we left, he spoiled us.  I remember him as the man that knew how to do everything, and I always will.  He tried to pass on some of his talents to us, by teaching us how to water ski and how to drive a boat.  Some of my fondest memories with him were spent on the lake soaking up all the wisdom he had to offer.  I remember when I was trying to learn to water ski, I couldn't manage to keep the ski's together as I came out of the water. I tried and tried, but to no avail.  The next time I went out on the lake with him, he looked at me with a sparkle in his eye and told me he had something special for me.  He had crafted a special pair of "learner ski's" that were held together with a rope so they wouldn't separate.  I remember thinking at that moment I was so lucky to have a grandpa who would go to such lengths for me.  That's just who grandpa was; a problem solver, an innovator, and most of all one of the kindest loving souls I have had the opportunity to know.

People who love to eat are always the best people.

My grandpa loved food and how it brought family together. I will always remember waking up to the smell of bacon, sausage, and every other breakfast food you can imagine at Grandpa's house.  Whenever he had family over he wold wake up early and cook the biggest breakfast you could imagine, as a kid this was really something special.  Grandpa not only loved cooking, but he loved snacks!  Growing up I was Grandpa's snack girl!  When my parents were building our house my Grandpa came to help.  Everyday I would head outside with nutty bars in hand and say 'snack time'!  Grandpa loved snack time, and growing up every time he saw me he wold ask if it was snack time yet. I hope Grandpa is looking down on us thinking; is it snack time?

Growing up going to grandma and grandpa's house was one of my favorite memories.  As soon as we would pull in we were greeted by grandpa's huge smile and loving hugs.  He would always make us hot chocolate and popcorn no matter what time of night we got there.  I will miss his big smile and twinkling eyes.

When I think of my father-in-law Alfred, I remember many good times.  Alfred loved to camp, and I have many happy memories water-skiing with him at the lake, campfires at night, and delicious breakfasts.  He was an active person, always working on a variety of projects. I remember visiting Valley Springs while they were building their house, and I was impressed with all of the tasks that he accomplished.  
Alfred taught me how to make his delicious enchiladas, and I have now taught my three daughters how to make his special recipe.  He was such an accomplished person, and he left such a gift with all of us to have confidence in approaching any task, no matter how large.  It is a powerful legacy and work ethic that I know will last many generations.

For me, my dad; Alfred, was the answer man.  When I was working on a car, wiring a switch or fixing the washing machine, I knew that if I ran into trouble I could call my Dad and he would give me good advice.  He was a man of many accomplishments and I had great confidence that he could do whatever he set his mind to whether that was building a house or decorating a wedding cake.  
When I was sixteen, I remember my Dad helping me put a new engine in by first car, a 1969 Mach 1 Mustang.  We switched out the engine and the interior of the car, and I learned so much from him about working on cars.  Later in life, I will always remember Dad and I stuccoing the house that Kristen and I were building.  It was a job that took weeks, and Dad stayed with us.  No matter how tired we were, my Dad always stayed positive and cheerful.  I'm hoping that he is looking down and watching us as we build our new home.

Alfred was my 'go to guy' for questions especially for Bible questions and car problems.  His input always seemed to put me in the right direction.  Alfred and I could argue about politics but we never argued in anger.  Almost all of life's issues we were in agreement, which made it difficult to find something to kick around.  Since the time I was saved in 1972, I've been in a constant pursuit for the truth.  I don't think he knew just how much he was there to show me the way.

Since Mom and Dad have passed, the outpouring of love from their family is a wonderful legacy and blessing for them. It is a lesson to us all that in life, no matter what our daily circumstances are...what is happening in our relationships...it is the heart of the person that truly touches us...things we will never know or understand that we say or do can be an influence on someone else's life that can make a difference.  With Christ "all things are possible" so even if we have personality flaws...He can let our hearts shine through.  Mom and Dad...thank you.

I would also like to add, the Oakwood Village Staff, the memory care community where you were the past year and a half...loved you and your humor and said you inspired them and often made their days!

Grandpa left a legacy of hard work and tenacity that was contagious.  He had an attitude and a determination about him that nothing was impossible with stamina and some hard work.  

My grandpa was a smaller guy, but was built like a fire hydrant.  When you spoke with him, you would walk away thinking that he was 10 feet tall and built like Arnold Schwarzenegger.  You can apply any of the Chuck Norris jokes you hear and replace them with Alfred Spears. For instance, Alfred Spears did not sleep.he waited or the Boogey Man checks his closet at night before going to bed for Alfred Spears. He would often tell me, Sure I may be small, but so is dynamite. 

However, my grandpa demonstrated what real strength is beyond his physicality.  He led his bride and his family through some tough times of adversity.  But Grandpa never blinked, never buckled, never tucked his tail and ran, but rather dug in and pressed on and stayed the course.  He was extremely hard working and diligenta man of character and obedience.  He was the epitome of integrity, his word was solid, he had a spine of steel, he had incredible confidence, he was resourceful and he walked with purpose.  He was incredibly faithful and devoted to my grandma and demonstrated on a daily basis the vow he made before God with his bride of 64 years.   He had an incredibly powerful influence on people through his words and his actions more than he ever knew.  He was the man amongst men.  I admire my grandpa and cherish the legacy that he passed on to me and my family.  

My grandparents were both believers in Christ; they both have now finished the course and are now together, at home with the Lord to hear, Well done, my good and faithful servant.

Dad,I will miss you terribly...I loved you so much. As a little girl I thought you were perfect, as a teen I realized you were human and made mistakes like all of us...it made me love you more! As an adult, my respect for you, your values and your faith influenced my role as a parent, and in my walk in life. Your love for mom was amazing. You were always happy, smiling, joking, loving life and everyone in your life. You were an awesome dad,father-in-law, grandpa and great-grandpa, son and brother. When we were little and would ask you a question, you always had an answer, you never said "I don't know."  You could fix everything and do anything..or at least you convinced us you could...LOL
But most of all Dad you amazed me in the last eight years of your alzheimer's disease. You were always thinking of others aware of others and always polite...even with the disease...You were always a pleaser...cooperative and patient. You kept everyone laughing with all your cliches. Your sweetness was a blessing to us, and helped us cope with your failing health. Dad you were and are incredible..I could go on and on..one thing I know for sure...you always said "You never know what is going to happen next" but this I do know...you are in Heaven with Jesus Christ, mom and your loved ones...and I will see you there some sweet day!  I love you dad...so much, I will miss you, but I know you are in a better place and happy! By for now...

For my father, my hero and friend .  I will miss you always but the memories will go on forever.  Thank You Dad   I Love You !
