Borue Howard O'Brien March 4, 1933 – March 10, 2018
Shortly after celebrating his 85th birthday, Borue passed peacefully in Roseville, CA in the company of family.
Borue was born in Oakland, CA on March 4, 1933 and his family moved to Kings Beach, CA shortly thereafter. Borue resided at the Lake until joining and serving four years in the US Coast Guard stationed in Alameda. After marrying, Borue returned to the Bay Area to complete his Civil Engineering degree from Cal. Borue joined Piombo Construction Company in San Carlos, CA where he remained for the next twenty-three years raising son Brian and daughter Erin. Borue was a member of Rotary International where he formed many of his lifelong friendships. After he and his partners sold Piombo, Borue remarried, relocated and began a development partnership in Sonoma County, where he raised daughter Megan.
Borue was a lifelong master of adventure and he encouraged family and friends to join him. He was a confident and capable pilot and skipper, never short of crew. Whether in high altitude or high seas, Borue loved the journey and leaves a wake of fond memories.
Borue was preceded in death by his parents, Boru and Dorothy O'Brien of Pilot Hill, CA and his sister Barbara Moore of Kings Beach. He is survived by son Brian B. O’Brien and family of Auburn, daughter Erin O. Perry and family of Davis and daughter Megan E. O’Brien and family of Petaluma.
The family wishes to express gratitude to the staff of Oakmont of Roseville for their kindness and assistance with his care in his last years.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Borue's memory may be made to Truckee Donner Land Trust, Tahoe Rim Trail Association, or The Nature Conservancy.
