

Clarella Mildred (Collyer) Marriott went to be her Lord on June 22, 2016 at the age of 99. Clarella was born to Wallace & Anabel Collyer on May 26th, 1917 in Whitesville, New York. Her parents, brother Gilbert and Clarella moved to Chico, California when she was 5 months old. After a year they moved to their ranch in Pilot Hill, California. They began attending First Baptist Church in Auburn in 1923. Clarella attended First Baptist Church all her life, being faithful to her church for 93 years. She came to know her Lord and Savior at the age of 6.
Clarella attended a one room school house at Pilot Hill and graduated from El Dorado High School in Placerville in 1935 where her father was vice-principal. Clarella was very involved in the El Dorado High School band and choir where she played trombone and enjoyed singing. She also played in the First Baptist Church orchestra. Joining the choir at 14 years old she spent over 70 years singing for her Lord Jesus Christ. Clarella attended San Jose State College for a year, then transferred to the new Placer Junior College in Auburn which later became Sierra College. She enjoyed being part of the acappella choir, band & orchestra and drama guild. She also took art lessons and loved to draw different types of art. Clarella graduated from Placer Junior College in 1938, the college’s first year.
Clarella worked in the family orchards picking fruit, then later worked in the Auburn Fruit Sheds on Nevada St. She met the love of her life Clinton Marriott in the youth group at First Baptist. They began courting in 1937 and were married May 14, 1939 at the First Baptist Church. Before she was married she worked as a fountain girl at “The Monarch” and as a nanny for 2 children. They settled on 70 acres located off of Dry Creek Road across from the regional park, where they built three homes while raising their five children. Clarella loved being a homemaker and taking care of her family. Later in life she decided to return to school and take classes to become a teacher. She substituted in the Auburn School District. When Clinton retired they traveled around the world, often with family and friends. She was very involved in her church through the years teaching Sunday School, participating in the Ladies Missionary Society, singing in the choir, playing in the orchestra, visiting shuts-ins, sponsoring youth groups and being a part of Prime Timers. She was a member of the Mt. Vernon Grange and Woman’s Christian Temperance Union since 1945. She loved to paint and did many types of scenes. Each family member got to choose a painting to remember her. Clarella loved to be with her family and she prayed for everyone in her family daily. She was a woman of God and a prayer warrior who was faithful to her Lord Jesus Christ till the end. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Clinton and Clarella had 75 wonderful years before Clinton went home to his Lord on October 4, 2014. Their eldest son Dennis (Karen) went to be with Jesus December 24, 2015. She is survived by her four children. Florabelle Whitney, Darrell (Denise), Linda (Ben) Ogilvie and Karen (David) Vaughan. She has 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held Sat. July 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 139 E.Placer St.
