Daniel Leite Verissimo

Daniel Leite Verissimo passed away on September 8, 2025 in Auburn California. A native of Santa Cruz, Graciosa Island, Azores, he immigrated to California in 1960, in the company of his wife Francelina Augusta de Silva. Their son Gary Verissimo was born in Auburn in 1963.

Daniel lived in Graciosa for the first 26 years of his life, where he was a farmer and wine maker. In California he worked for a fruit grower company and for the Meadow Vista School District as a custodian.

He had a great time helping out and participating at the Lincoln Holy Ghost Festa, where he enjoyed the friendship of his fellow Portuguese immigrants.

During the years, he and his family visited eight times to his loved birthplace in the Azores, in the island that was always in his mind.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Antonio Verissimo and Diolinda Mendonca Leite and by three brothers and two sisters. He is also survived by his wife of 65 years, Francelina Silva and by their son Gary Verissimo, Gary's wife, Peggy and their son Gary Samuel. He is also survived by six nieces and nephews in the East Coast.

The funeral will take place September 19th, preceded by a Catholic Mass at 11:00 am at Saint Joseph Church in Auburn. The funeral procession will head to Auburn District Cemetery for the burial.
