Ridgecrest native David Wayne Thompson, age
73 of Auburn, CA passed away
September 28, 2021. Known
as Wayne, Dave or DW to
family and friends, he was born
to Lloyd & Mary (Barrett)
Thompson at Naval
Ordnance Test Station on
November 10, 1947.
Wayne enlisted in the Air Force
upon graduating from
Burroughs High in 1966 where
he was recognized as the top
mechanic in his school. He
served his country for four
years both overseas and
stateside. Wayne returned
home to his family and
began studying nights at Cerro
Coso College in the field of
computer programming. He
started his programming career
at Computer Sciences
Corporation and later he
moved on to work at
Naval Weapons Center in
Michaelson Lab as a computer
programmer and systems
analyst.
He was overjoyed to
become a father to his two
children Rebecca and Travis in
1974 and 1976. In 1994 he met
his wife and soulmate, Betty,
and they married in 1995 and
he became stepfather to
Lauren Hannah.
Wayne enjoyed riding his Harley
motorcycle, travelling, family
get-togethers, friends and
playing Santa Clause at
Christmas. Wayne retired from
now NAWC in 2008 and moved to
Auburn where he could pursue
his interest in photography,
computer graphics, travel and
spend time with his beloved
dogs. Wayne is survived by his
wife Betty, daughter Rebecca
& son-in-law Daniel Stroud, son
Travis & daughter-in-law
Jeanna Thompson;
stepdaughter Lauren Hannah,
his five grandchildren Scott,
Calvin, Barrett, Wyatt, and
Garrett, his Uncle Dale
and Aunt Dory Howard
and niece Kelli Bledsoe. He
is preceded in death by his
parents Lloyd and Mary
Thompson, his big brother
Ronnie Thompson, and his
much loved Aunt Joann
Whiteley.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 13th at 11:30am at Chapel of the Hills, 1331 Lincoln Way, Auburn CA.
