Donald R. Andrews passed on January 15, 2012 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Los Angeles, California and moved to Paso Robles at an early age. Donald joined the Air Force in 1953 and served until 1957. He was stationed in England with the 85th Bomb Squadron. He went to work for Purity Stores as a teenager and opened Purity Stores in Auburn in 1962. He worked there after Purity Stores was sold to Alpine Market until he retired in 1987. He was born to Alice and John Andrews, and was a brother to Doris Ann Gutschmidt. Married to Earlene Andrews, and father to Allen Andrews, who passed away in July of 1979, Douglas Andrews (Lori), and Terry Davidson (David), four grandchildren, Kody Andrews, Ron Davidson, Wade Andrews, and Sara Davidson, and two step-grandchildren, Josh and Justin Brown. Don enjoyed fishing and made yearly vacations to Sardine Lake for over 30 years. He and his son enjoyed working on cars, and attending his grandchildren’s sports was a must. He enjoyed building models in his later years and working in the yard. At his request there will be no services held. A private family service will be held at the cemetery at a later date. Remembrances can be made to the Cancer Society or the Salvation Army Food Bank. Arrangements under the direction of Chapel of the Hills, Auburn, Ca. I heard the news about Don today. I've known Don for 20 years. He was a fishing buddy at Sardine Lake. Every year my husband and I would joke and talk about fishing with Don. We enjoyed his humor and fun-loving nature. He was such a good man. The lake will never be the same without him. God speed, Don. My condolences to the Earlene and the family.
