Dulcie Louise Hoofnagle Overmiller Robinson

Dulcie died peacefully in her sleep, on November 3rd, 2016; with family in attendance at her home in Auburn, California. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wilbur C. Overmiller (40 years), second husband Dunlap Robert “Bob Robinson (26 years), sister, Gwendolyn Bade “Sease” Tymczyszyn, daughter Linda Robinson Scott, and two grandchildren.

Dulcie was born December 19th, 1916, in Dawson Iowa to Fern and Ruth Hoofnagle. Dawson was a small town, and the house that Dulcie, and her sister Sease, grew up in was centrally located. Dulcie and her sister had to walk an entire block to attend church, and had a much longer walk to school, which was two blocks away.

Dulcie attended Iowa State University in Ames Iowa for her Freshmen year before moving to York College in Lincoln Nebraska as a premedical student. Dulcie’s younger sister, Sease, joined Dulcie at York College and they dormed together. It was during her time at college that Dulcie met the love of her life, Wilbur C. Overmiller.

Dulcie and Wilbur were married August 6th, 1938 just before he was accepted to Medical School in Omaha Nebraska. Four years later, Dulcie saw her husband join the navy, and toured the country during his service time. She worked at Mather Airforce Base in Sacramento, CA in the business office, while her husband served overseas for 21 months. When Wilbur returned stateside they continued their tour of the United States as he finished his medical Internships.

Dulcie and Wilbur settled in Auburn California in 1948 and build the house of their dreams in 1950. Dulcie and Wilbur welcomed their daughter, Marty Overmiller, in March of 1952. They built their medical practice and opened their office in 1956 with partner Oliver Scheideman.

Dulcie’s many hobbies included weaving with a loom, gardening, Town and County Bridge Club and raising siamese cats. Dulcie also enjoyed traveling, and was especially fond of safari in East Africa with her sister-in-law and husband Lois and Ray Ruppel.

Dulcie enjoyed many visits from her nephews over the years. She greeted the Tymczyszyn boys as they each flew up at age 16 for their first long range solo flight to the Auburn Airport. She welcomed the Ruppels and Blacks for many weekend visits with trips to the American River. Tomato sandwiches and cottage cheese and grape salad were popular items on the menu.

Community service was an important aspect in Dulcie’s life. She served many positions within the First Congregational Church of Auburn, supported Community Concerts, was an officer for the Tri-County Medical Society Women’s Auxiliary, and served on multiple boards within the community over the years both officially and unofficially.

Dulcie and her husband Wilbur were intimately involved with the creation of Auburn Faith Community Hospital and later Auburn Ravine Terrace. Dulcie had the honor to serve on the board twice with Auburn Ravine Terrace, first in the 1970s after Wilbur died in April of 1977, and again in the 2000s, resigning in the spring of 2016. Dulcie was instrumental in the creation of the Auburn Ravine Terrace Benevolence Fund; which supports residents who fall under financial hardship and allows them to remain in their home at Auburn Ravine Terrace.

Dulcie Married Dunlap Roberts “Bob” Robinson in November 1977. With her marriage she embraced two sons and three more daughters; Linda Robinson Scott (Homer), Nina Robinson (Lincoln Cushing), Kelly Robinson (Valerie), David Burns (Coco), and Carolynn Basque (Keith). Dulcie’s love of travel ignited Bob’s interest and they wanted to share their passion with their extended family. In 1984 Dulcie and Bob took their children and grandchildren on safari in Kenya, Africa.

Dulcie became a great-grandmother in the late 1990s and was proud to be the head of four generations. More recently, Dulcie created a new tradition that brings family, neighbors and friends together at her home in Auburn for a biannual “Roundup” where much food, fellowship and laughter is shared.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 17th, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Auburn (Church on the hill) 710 Auburn Ravine Road. Visitors are welcome to drop in at any time during the celebration.
