Floyd Smith was born March 10, 1935, in Grand Junction, Colorado; he was the last living child of 7, born fifth to Millie and Everett Smith. The angels guided him to his final fishing hole on January 23, 2024, comforted as he passed by his devoted wife, Shari, his son, Mark, and other family members. The family moved to Molalla, Oregon, where he graduated from Molalla Union High School, later serving 4 years in the Army, and then began a forty-year career as a carpenter. In the early 1960’s he married Geraldine, taking on the immediate role as father to Ricky, later adding three more rowdy boys to his tribe - Mark, Tracy, and Bruce. Eventually, Floyd found his way to sunny California it is here that he entered the commercial concrete trade and became an expert concrete Master and Foreman. It was tough work, nonetheless he sang his way through the day. It’s been said, the worst day fishing beats the best day working, Floyd rightfully proved this true - rivers, oceans, lakes - he’d fish it! If you knew Floyd well, you knew there’d be fish a story to tell – especially the one about the one that got away, but the one that didn’t get away was the greatest of all - his wife Shari - whom he treasured and loved dearly for thirty years of marriage. It began in the early 1990’s in San Jose, they later moved to their Foresthill home after Floyd laid down his hard hat in retirement. Both enjoyed those years fishing, gambling, spending time with family, barbequing, watching their favorite football team - the Niners - and simply porch sittin’ while watching the grandkids grow.
He deservedly earned the honors of Husband, Dad, Brother (in-law), Son (in-law), Grandpa, “Pops”, boss, veteran, and friend. He lived a full and happy life and will surely be missed by all.
Floyd is survived by his loving wife, Shari, sons Mark and Tracy, honorary kids Ryan, Adam, and Shantel, two cats (Socks and Coco), an abundance of grand and great-grandkids, many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and outlaws.
