4/23/1944 - 1/7/2011
Jack Ray French, 66 passed away due to complications related to vascular dementia and COPD in his Foresthill home on January 7, 201. He was surrounded by his loving family and devoted caregiver. Jack was born on April 23, 1944 in Albany, California to Jeff and Lorene French. He attended school in the Sacramento area and after attending C. K. McClatchy High School joined the US Navy. He proudly served his country and traveled to Japan, and Australia. He left the Navy and worked at American Crystal Sugar in Clarksburg, CA and when he married Pam he began working at C and H Lumber Co. in Sacramento. When his Dad, Jeff, began working in the Timber industry in Foresthill Jack followed suit and began working in the woods as a choker setter. He relocated his family to Foresthill and eventually came to work in the mill in Foresthill. He continued to work there until its closure in 1994. He drove truck for Dick Simon trucking for a short time before he declared that he did not like being away from home. Timberlake Medical supplies hired him as a deliveryman and he enjoyed meeting the people working there until he began feeling ill in 1999.
Jack loved his family and friends and he would help any one at a moments notice. He loved working outside, playing dominoes, and taking trips to Reno. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a ready smile. He was a very social guy and enjoyed making new friends. Sadly the dementia took away his ability to talk but it seemed sometimes that his beautiful blue eyes could do the talking for him. Family and friends will miss him. He leaves behind his loving wife of 42 years Pamela, His son Jack Jr. and wife Arlene of Sacramento, CA, and his daughter Joyce French Hayes of Pleasanton, CA. He also leaves his sister Betty Faye Smith and her family of Sacramento, CA.
His family would like to thank Lillian for the care and devotion she gave to Jack. Lillian stayed with Jack and his family until he drew his last breath. JoAn and Heather were also there to provide care for Jack and are also very much appreciated. Sutter Auburn Faith Hospice is an amazing program that provided dedicated care, solace and support for the family through the nurse Kim, social worker Hayden, and our volunteer Dianna. Jack will be missed and loved by all his family and friends.
Arrangements under the direction of Chapel of the Hills, Auburn, CA.
