She is survived by her son, Ken Marti, her sister Veriel Kuypers, her brother-in-law, Gene Derrington and 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great- grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Richard A. Marti and her daughter Marilyn Sue Marti, as well as her sisters Leonora Shutt and Evelyn Derrington and her brother Clement Van Vliet.
She was truly one of the “Greatest Generation” – selfless, tireless, uncomplaining, accepting, with simple needs, but very demanding of herself. She was gentle and kind to her family and to all those with whom she worked and played golf. And, she had beautiful blue eyes and an all-inviting smile.
Born to Jake and Minnie Van Vliet at home on September 30, 1927, Janice was blessed with a family of 3 sisters and one brother, residing among the eucalyptus trees and orange groves of Rialto, California. She graduated from San Bernardino High School in 1945. She worked at Pacific Bell Telephone Company for two years. She then worked and helped run, with her husband Dick Marti and Joyce and Buster Goforth, the Goforth and Marti Office Supply Company at 234 D Street, San Bernardino from 1960-1984, when her husband Dick passed away. From 1984-1995 she then did bookkeeping for Edward G. Hill, real estate appraiser.
Janice and Dick were avid golfers and card players. They were members of El Rancho Verde Country Club in Rialto and then Arrowhead Country Club in San Bernardino. They spent beautiful days outside on the golf course; many friends, much laughter.
There will be a future private service for family. Her ashes will be reunited with Dick in the mountains above San Bernardino.
