

Jerry W. Elder Sr., a beloved figure in his community, passed away peacefully in the late evening at his home in Newcastle on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. Born on August 8, 1945, in Price, Utah, Jerry moved to Newcastle, California, at the age of 12. He spent the rest of his life in Newcastle, building his family and friends and creating unforgettable memories.
He attended Placer High School, where he graduated in 1963. Afterward, Jerry dedicated six years of his life to serving in the Army National Guard. His professional career took off when he joined Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), where he excelled as an overhead electrical lineman and foreman for more than 35 years.
Jerry was a passionate enthusiast of various activities that brought joy and fulfillment to his life. He found immense happiness in riding his horses, archery, fishing, and cast-iron cooking. His infectious sense of humor created laughter wherever he went, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. Jerry’s love for his family was unwavering, and he was deeply cherished by his wife of 60 years, Jonita (Joni), and their two sons, Jerry Jr. (Susan), and Jason.
He was the proud grandfather of four grandchildren, Jade (Sid), Jared, Rose, and Vivian, and a great-grandson, Damien. Jerry is survived by sister, Ethelene, and his brothers, Eugene, Dean, Clifford, and brother-in-law Norwin Threlkel. He had numerous nieces and nephews who hold a special place in his heart. Jerry also considered Les, Randy, and Jack his brothers in life.
Family and friends will be notified of a future gathering to remember his humor and love. Those who knew Jerry are invited to share a written story or memory of when he made them laugh.
