Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ChapeloftheHills-Auburn.com for the Best family.
Kay Best passed away January 16, 2022, of complications from cancer exacerbated by Covid pneumonia.
Kay was born on August 10, 1941, in Torrence, California. She experienced a difficult childhood losing her mother at age five and bouncing around to different homes until she safely landed with Reverend Ken Waterbury and his wife, Betty. The Waterbury's raised Kay as their own daughter in a stable and loving household, and Betty and Kay had an undeniable mother-daughter bond that would last their lifetime. Ken and Betty Waterbury would care for many more children and families at the Home of Faith which they founded in Winters, California, in the 1950s.
Kay is preceded in death by her son Jason Best, parents Ken and Betty Waterbury, brother Craig Waterbury, and sister June Ricketts.
She is survived by her sisters Betty Jean Knofler (Rod), Carol Lynn Waterbury and brothers Larry Waterbury (Julie) and Otto Waterbury; by her children Shari Duncan (Graylon), Kellie Casper (Jack), Nikki Hopkins (Patrick), and Aaron Schreiber (Melissa); six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kay will be remembered for her kind heart and willingness to help, her love of animals, especially dogs, and her love of playing the slot machines at Thunder Valley Casino, hoping to "win it big."
A private graveside ceremony will take place at the New Auburn Cemetery, as was her wish. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Kay’s name to the Placer SPCA (placerspca.org) or your favorite dog rescue organization.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
