07/15/1924-09/13/2018
Marie Belle (Campbell) Hubbard was born in Richmond, California on July 15, 1924 to William Harvey Campbell and Lillian Marie (Palmer) Campbell. Marie had seven siblings: Lucy, Thomas, James, Vessie, Edgar, Virginia, and Paul.
Marie married Ivan Lavern Hubbard on February 20, 1942, who was fondly called Vern. Together, they shared a wonderful 73 years of marriage. She was a graduate of Placer High in 1942. Marie was a strong advocate for education and earned an Associate’s Degree from Sierra College, and both a Bachelor’s Degree and Teaching Credential from Sacramento State. At a very young age, Marie knew she wanted to be a teacher. She loved helping children learn and teaching them the skills they needed to succeed. She was a teacher for over 30 years and taught at E.V. Cain and Rock Creek School in Auburn, California. Many of her former students stayed in touch with her over the years.
She is survived by her two daughters, Gloria Gale Knight (Michael Lawrence) of Willits, CA and Carol Rosan Carlson (Donald Allison) of Applegate, CA; four grandchildren, Blaine Carlton Aud of Sacramento, CA, Blair Kimberly Aud of Foresthill, CA, Becky Belinda Donahoo (Chet Douglas) of Willits, CA, and Amanda Marie Carlson of Temecula, CA; three great-grandchildren, Brandie Sharise Rankin of Santa Cruz, CA, Reis Jordin Rankin of Willits, CA, and Don Douglas Donahoo of Willits, CA; one great-great-grandchild, Beau James Rankin of Willits, CA; brothers Edgar and Paul Campbell; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vern, and siblings James, Thomas, Lucy, Virginia, and Vessie. Both Marie and Vessie passed away on the same day, September 13th, three years apart.
Marie was dedicated to her family’s history and devoted lots of time to researching her family’s genealogy. She traced her and Vern’s family history back centuries and connected with cousins from all over the world. She wrote and published the Hubbard Footprints for decades, which shared both family history and updates with her relatives.
She was an avid reader, spider solitaire player, and crossword and jigsaw puzzle solver. Marie enjoyed family camping trips, reunions, and potlucks. She was a talented seamstress and made many clothing pieces for her family. Marie was also a skilled baker and produced many delicious pies, cookies, and biscuits, all which quickly disappeared at any family gathering!
Marie was a warm and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, niece, cousin, and friend. She passed away peacefully on September 13, 2018. She will be deeply missed by her family. At her request, a private graveside service will be held for immediate family only.
