Cathy and I met in junior high (1959-60) and became friends. She moved away to Florida with her mom, we wrote to each other as our bond of friendship grew. When she moved to California, we continued to write. I came out twice to visit her after high school. Even though there was a huge distance in miles our letters back-and-forth kept us close and in touch. Her and I shared our hopes, dreams, disappointments, tears. Cathy was the one that told me about her personal relationship with the Lord when she became a Christian.  I wanted the same relationship that she so often wrote to me about and encouraged me.  This bond of friendship endured us because of our mutual caring about each other and praying for one another.
The last time I visited, Cathy was in 2001. As the years went by and her health declined, we wrote each other 3 to 5 times a week with cards and letters. Our bond of friendship was very special to both of us. Cathy was a Great encourager, her favorite saying to me,  in letters was. “ The sun is still shining, even if the clouds are in the way”
I miss my lifelong friend of over 60 years, but I’m comforted by knowing she is with the Lord and there is no more pain and struggles. She was ready to go and be with her Savior.
