Sheila Enriquez (née Capps), of Newcastle, California, passed away on December 20, 2024. Sheila was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1948. Her family moved west, where she grew up across California. Sheila was an avid horsewoman, showing horses on the Arabian show circuit. It was at a county fair rodeo, in 1966, that she met Raul Enriquez—the love of her life, her companion, and the man she would later marry and walk beside for 55 years.
In 1969, she made the brave decision to join Raul in Mexico, where they toured across Mexico, Central and South America, and added Barbara and Angel to the family until they returned to California to work on the family farm, Twin Peaks Orchards, in 1975. Sheila and Raul had three more children: Camelia, Alondra, and Valente, and continued the legacy her father Howard Nakae built at Twin Peaks until they retired in 2020.
Sheila loved flowers, horses, beautiful afternoon tea, a lovingly cooked meal, and most of all, her family. She dedicated her life to supporting and nurturing them through significant hardship and joyous success. She looked for beauty, joy, and positivity relentlessly and pushed through any obstacle once she set her mind to something.
Sheila is joined in peace by her parents Barbara and Howard Nakae and all of her beautiful animal friends. She is survived by her five children Barbara (Fay), Angel, Camelia (Miller), R. Valente, and Alondra; her siblings, and her 13 grandchildren. Her family strives to keep her legacy of resilience, peace, beauty, and joy alive.
In her life, Sheila looked for ways to lift others around her. To honor that legacy, in lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF) at www.caff.org/donate2024.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Sheila on January 3, at 3:00 PM, at the Blue Goose Event Center in Loomis, California. Those wishing to pay their respects are welcome.
