Verlyn Dale Eisert, 81, of Auburn, California, and formerly a long-time resident of Loomis, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 16, 2024, under the tender care of his beloved wife of 21 years, Devra Eisert. Though his large and giving heart could no longer sustain him on earth, it now sustains his eternal life in Heaven.
Verlyn was born on April 24, 1943, in Crookston, Minnesota to George Edward and Freda Alice Eisert. The family later relocated to the Los Angeles area, where Verlyn graduated from Bell Gardens High School in 1960. At the age of 17, with his parents' consent, he joined the U.S. Army. He served three years, primarily in Germany during the Berlin Crisis, where he worked for a General in the War Room and explored the country with his Army brothers whenever possible.
After his honorable discharge as a Corporal in 1963, Verlyn met his first wife, Carole Ann Dinnen, at their church in Bell Gardens. They married and initially lived in Bell before moving to Loomis. They were blessed with nearly 37 years of marriage before Carole’s untimely passing in 2001. Together, they raised three children: Steven Dale, James Edward, and Timothy Jason. In February 2003, Verlyn married Devra Kay, bringing joy and companionship to his later years.
Verlyn's life was marked by his deep Christian faith, his love for antique and classic tractors, and his enthusiasm for helping his sons with their cars and school projects. He enjoyed traveling in the RV across the United States, woodworking, aiding others, and spreading smiles. Known affectionately as “Dale the Tractor Guy” throughout Placer County, he was an admired antique tractor enthusiast, restorer, and repairman. His dedication extended to numerous volunteer hours with United Way, Boy Scouts of America, Junior Achievement, and his Lutheran Church.
Professionally, Verlyn started as an Overhead Lineman at Southern California Edison before moving to Northern California. There, he joined the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), advancing through roles such as Foreman, Superintendent, Rancho Seco Nuclear Power Station Safety Lead, and eventually the SMUD Safety and Codes Administrator. His most memorable moment at SMUD was when he performed CPR, saving a colleague's life after an accident. Verlyn spent his final years at SMUD coordinating with State Agencies and Commissions to improve OSHA rules, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues. After retiring from SMUD, he continued his interests professionally for several years as a power-sector safety and codes expert and consultant.
Verlyn is survived by his wife, Devra Kay; her daughters, Disa Ann Netemeyer Barnes and her family, and Kimberly Dawn Netemeyer Dorsey and her family; his sons, Steven Dale Eisert and his family, James Edward Eisert and his family, and Timothy Jason Eisert and his family; and his five sisters, Merlene Evelyn Radi, Estle Marie Nelson, Arlys Mae Brantner, Sheryl Jean Hughes, and Claryce Elaine Thomas. He was preceded in death by his first wife Carole Anne Eisert and his two brothers, Gaylan Orville Eisert and Allyn Lee Eisert.
Verlyn will be remembered for his kindness, his dedication to his faith and family, and his unwavering commitment to helping others. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and cherished memories.
A family funeral service will be held to commemorate and celebrate Verlyn’s miliary service and life. His earthly eternal home will be at the Newcastle Cemetery which was founded in 1857 and is nestled among gentle rolling hills and majestic redwoods and oaks, where family and friends can visit for private reflection.
