On Wednesday, October 23rd, Bill Farrell passed away at the age of 87. Bill was born on May 22nd, 1932 in Newport, Rhode Island. After high school he served in the army, then moved to Southern California where he attended Whittier College and excelled in football. In 1959, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. That same year, he married his wife of 60 years, Natalie. They began their teaching careers by moving to Barranquilla, Colombia, where Bill taught physical education. After a year, the political climate shifted and they decided to return to California, to Auburn, where Natalie’s family lived. Bill taught 7th and 8th grade students at Colfax Elementary School and set up athletic programs for the students. In 1967, he began teaching art at Colfax High School, where he later developed a robust photography program at the school. Bill’s other passion was sports. He helped coach the school’s football and basketball teams, leading them to many notable victories. Bill was inducted into the Colfax High School Hall of Fame in 2000 in honor of his many years of dedication to his students. In retirement, Bill enjoyed playing tennis, wintering in Hawaii, and spending time with close family and friends. He is remembered by all for his playful sense of humor. Bill is survived by his wife, Natalie; his brothers, Jim (Nancy) and Dan (Susan); his son, Jeff (Ellen); and his grandson, Connor.

Bill was my cousin and I remember him even though I was a little girl.
I remember his sparkly eyes and kindness to his little cousins.
Reading Bills obituary sounds like a life well lived.

My condolences,

Bill was my favourite babysitter as well as a special cousin when I was little. I was so proud that one of my big cousins was a lifeguard in Newport. My thoughts and prayers are with Natalie and family.
