Burton Bronson, age 92, was born on October 4th, 1928, in Pontiac, Michigan and peacefully passed away on September 8th, 2021. Burton built his lifetime career as a music teacher and band director in the Birmingham Public Schools. He was also a Music Coordinator in the Waterford Public Schools for 22 years. Burton received his Bachelor of Arts degree in music education from Michigan State University. He was a member of the U.S. Armed Forces serving in the Army Band during the Korean War. Following his service, he earned his Master of Music Education from MSU.
Some of Burton’s earliest memories included carrying his tuba uphill to school – both ways on Birmingham’s Willetts Hill. He was very proud of seeing all 4 of his grandchildren become 3rd generation Michigan State University graduates, as well as becoming a great-papa. His proudest career accomplishments were the 40 years that Burton devoted to education and becoming President of the Birmingham Education Association. Burton wished for people to learn from him a love for music and the arts. He was exceptionally proud of opening Groves High School Music Program in 1959 and being the Principal Tuba in the Detroit Concert Band. Although Burton had a passion and love for all music, he especially enjoyed listening to and playing classical pieces of music.
Burton is preceded in death by his parents Karl & Josephine Bronson, his sister Alice Bronson Koch, and his beloved wife Katherine Bolz Bronson (2019). Burton is survived by Mary Kay (David) Frank of Rochester Hills, Michigan, and James (Cynthia) Bronson of Davison, Michigan. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Katie Frank, Garry (Ashley) Frank, Holly Bronson, and Jake (fiancée Sarah) Bronson and great-grandsons Ethan and Archer Frank. Burton leaves behind several nieces and nephews. The family would also like to thank Korea Allen of Avalon of Auburn Hills for her special care.
