Born on September 25, 1955, in Pontiac, Michigan, to Charles Murray and Therese (Armstrong) Byers. He grew up in Rochester, where he attended Woodward Elementary, Central Junior High, and graduated from Rochester High School in 1973.
After high school, Mike quickly began working, building a strong and steady career in machining and manufacturing. He found his calling in plastic injection mold making, dedicating over two decades to Special Mold Engineering. His deep knowledge and dedication earned him multiple leadership roles, but he was most proud of mentoring others. Mike shared his knowledge generously, helping many learn the trade and often going out of his way to help find jobs for friends and family. His legacy lives on in the many lives and careers he helped shape.
Mike loved the outdoors and found joy in skiing, golf outings, and especially camping and fishing trips with family and friends. He was an involved and devoted father, particularly enjoying his time spent supporting his son Tyler’s Cub Scout adventures and taking memorable family trips to places like Mackinac Island and Grand Bend.
A true music lover, Mike enjoyed local live bands and concerts in his younger years and shared that passion with his children—introducing them to classics like Jim Croce and The Beatles, and newer artists like Jewel and Alanis Morissette.
Even in retirement, as his health declined, Mike stayed socially connected and mentally active. He was a dedicated Detroit Tigers fan, an avid watcher of documentaries and history programs, and always up for a good conversation about a show or a game.
Mike will be greatly missed by his children Daun, Cameron, Megan, and Tyler, and by his beloved grandchildren: Sophia, Samuel, Cheyanne, Annabella, and Eva. He also leaves behind his sisters Beverly, Patricia, Nancy, and Michelle; his Aunt Billie and Aunt Donna; and many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Murray.
Mike’s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to his lifelong friends Kevin West and Steve Romolino, whose support and friendship meant so much during his final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held this fall, with details to be announced by the family.
Mike will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, love of music, and unwavering devotion to family and friends.
