He was born in Gaston County, North Carolina on January 2nd, 1941. He married to Martha Mary Carnes on October 8th, 1970. Along with his loving wife Martha, he is survived by his daughters Tonia Worley, Cheryle Carnes, Barbara (Raymon) Simmons, his son Curtis L. Carnes, and his former wife Brenda Vickery. Curtis was preceded in death by Robert (Paula) Carnes. He is survived by his wonderful grandchildren, Crystal, Amanda, Curtis Ryan, Brandon, Benjamin, Richard, Lillian, Arrianna, preceded in death by Timothy. His dear sisters that he loved so very much Shirley (Ragnar) Gudlaugsson, Elsa Morris, was preceded in death by Iris (Richard) Lowe. Preceded in death by his parents Curtis Butler Carnes and Margaret Lillian (Meek) Carnes.
Curtis was a Vietnam Veteran with the United States Air Force. He was a member of the American Legion post 143 Hill-Gazette Auburn Hills, he was a Church elder and board member at the Silver Lake Church of the Nazarene in Pontiac and managed the Forgotten Harvest Food distribution program to feed the hungry. He dedicated 33 years of his life to General Motors as a skilled tradesman. He was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association and loved to take trips on his Honda Gold Wing with his wife Martha and their friends.
He would lend money (and sometimes never get it back); he was happy to feed and help anyone who needed it. He could build amazing things from scrap wood. He loved to go deer hunting, fishing, and growing his garden. He loved to cook, spend time with family and friends. His loved to watch Gunsmoke, Cheyenne, and all westerns. He loved to listen to country music and go dancing with Martha when they were younger.
Visitation for Curtis will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday December 15th, 2023 at Pixley Funeral Home of Auburn Hills, located at 3530 Auburn Road, Auburn Hills, MI 48326. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home immediately following visitation, followed by a procession to Christian Memorial Gardens West located at 521 E Hamlin Rd, Rochester Hills. A lunch will be served at the funeral home after.
