From his earliest years in Detroit through his graduation from Utica High School, Daniel carried forward a steady determination that would shape the course of his life. He went on to study and achieve the title of Master Carpenter, a distinction that reflected not only skill, but a deep respect for the craft.
Daniel’s life was marked by perseverance and self-reliance. Starting with nothing and working hard, he built a livelihood as the proud founder and owner of Swartz Distributing/Utica Home Improvement Company. His capable hands and practical judgment were matched by an enduring willingness to take on responsibility. He also found a calling out on the Great Lakes where he served as a Charter Boat Captain in the Thumb, specifically St. Clair and Huron up to Port Austin on his boat the Dan-D-Lou.
In his personal life, Daniel found joy in the outdoors under open skies. He was a talented big game hunter who hunted out west in Montana, evening bagging Elk and Bears, and he was also a prolific fisher. He owned a cottage in Port Hope, where he enjoyed spending his summer days and hunting deer. Daniel lived in Florida for 25 years before returning to Michigan to be closer to family.
Daniel was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a perfect attendance Rotary Member, commitments that spoke to his sense of duty and constancy.
Daniel is survived by his children Jeffrey (Ann Marie) Swartz, John Swartz, James Swartz, Dannielle Swartz, and Mary S. Cuenca; his sister-in-law Sharon Swartz; grandchildren Dustin Swartz-Krautheim, Desiree Couch, Destinee Couch, Joshua Swartz, Jackson Swartz, Isabella Cuenca; great grandchildren; and close friend Todd Maschke and others.
