Donald Elmore Hansen passed away on Memorial Day May 30, 2022. He was 84 years old, born in Detroit July 31, 1937 to Elmore Hansen and Muriel Hansen (Wise). He was the beloved husband of Angela for nearly 50 years. Proud father of Melissa (Curtis). Doting grandfather of Ashley and Owen. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Dick Hansen and Bill Hansen.
Donald “Don” grew up in Detroit, the middle son of Elmore and Muriel who were both school teachers. He always had a love of gadgets and fixing things and went to Cass tech where he studied drafting. He was in service in Army Intelligence from 1960 to 1962 and served in Korea in 1961. He joined the National Guard in 1962 for a year and then Army reserves until 1966. He was very proud to be a Veteran and to have served our country. He started his career in Bethlehem Steel, then spent most of his career working for Massey Ferguson then later General Dynamics, TRW, and AM General. Massey was a good fit as he sure loved mowing a lawn. He married Angela in 1972 and they lived happily in Shelby township, Romeo, and Bloomfield Hills before retiring and moving to Florida in 1995. It was in Florida Don was the happiest, with the sunny weather and year-round golfing.
Don’s favorite things were chocolate and all things sweet, golf, a perfectly manicured yard, movies once a week, our cottage in Tawas, the sound of Lake Huron, our grandfather clock and eating out especially a good prime rib, lobster and crab legs. He loved the sun and generally had a sunburn all summer every summer. In his younger days he was a pilot and owned his own Cessna. When he was dating Angela he often flew them up north on weekend getaways. He loved Missy and his Grandchildren Ashley and Owen very much, and always went out of his way to buy thoughtful gifts to entertain them while visiting Florida.
Don’s family will welcome everyone to a visitation on Wednesday June 1, 2022 from 5:00–7:30 p.m. at Pixley Funeral Home, located at 3530 Auburn Road in downtown Auburn Hills, Michigan. A funeral mass will be held at Christ Our Light at 3077 Glouchester Drive Troy 48084 at on Thursday June 2nd.
