He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 5, 1942. Ed graduated from North Hills High School and went on to receive his Bachelors of Science Degree in Urban Planning from Michigan State University. After college, he married Barbara Greene on April 2, 1966.
Ed had a career in Financial Planning for the Hantz Group. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves, and had a passion for sailing, cooking, and gardening.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Barbara Vettel; his daughters Katherine (Shaun) Serda and Karen (Russ) Jimenez; His grandson Shaun Edward Serda and granddaughters Melissa and Sarah Jimenez; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
In place of a memorial service, Ed requested that family and friends make their personal goodbyes at their convenience. He will be laid to rest at Guardian Angel Cemetery in the mausoleum, 4701 N. Rochester Rd., Oakland, MI 48307.
In lieu of flowers, Ed requested that donations be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America, PVA.org.
