He was born in Detroit Michigan on May 26, 1932 to Crew and Helen Shimalski.
He married Dorothy Mary Jones on October 26, 1962. They celebrated 56 years together this year.
Glenn is survived by his wife Dotty, daughters Julie (Lee) Vulaj, Amy (Jeremy) Kingsbury, grandchildren Taryn (Tim) Kovach, Dana Vulaj, Noah Kingsbury, and Benjamin Kingsbury, sister Esther Gordon as well as many nieces and nephews.
Glenn grew up in Redford Michigan, where he was an active Boy Scout and later a star player of the Redford High School Varsity Baseball team. Upon graduation Glenn signed with American Legion Baseball and played for the College Park Club-Post 327 in Norfolk, VA for two years. In 1952 he enlisted in the United States Navy, stationed in Philadelphia, PA. He served with the Atlantic Reserve Fleet-Submarine Group Two. During this time Glenn took classes toward an automotive engineering degree at the Automotive Training Center of Spring Garden Institute in Philadelphia.
Upon his honorable discharge in 1954 Glenn received the National Defense Service Medal. He then began a successful engineering career with Ford Motor Company, General Motors and Fram Automotive (which became a subsidiary of Allied Signal, Bendix and Honeywell). He was an active member of the Society of Automotive Engineers.
Glenn loved playing and watching sports. In addition to baseball, he had a passion for hunting and fishing. He was a self-taught golfer and enjoyed playing with family and friends.
A gathering to celebrate Glenn's life will take place on Saturday November 24 between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm at Pixley Funeral Home, 3530 Auburn Road, Auburn Hills, MI 48326. Lunch will follow at Grand Tavern restaurant, 3512 Marketplace Circle, Rochester Hills. Burial will be private at a later date.
