She was born in Detroit on April 13, 1930, daughter of the late Alex and Caroline Lawther. Helen graduated from Southeastern High School in Detroit and worked for 25 years at Bower Roller Bearing as an Aircraft Parts Inspector. She was a Life Member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Highland Chapter 9914 and for many years donated her time as a volunteer at the Jefferson City Memorial Hospital in Jefferson City, TN.
She had a passion for the Lord and her home church, Covenant Christian Church. Helen also enjoyed gardening, travel, caring for her dogs, and watching the Hallmark Channel.
On March 8, 1978, Helen married Hall C. Hancock and enjoyed 33 years of marriage until his passing in 2011.
She is survived by her daughter Vicki Brown; Step children Dennis (Mary Jane), Valerie (Mary Jo), Holly (Pat) and Hall John (Eunice); grandchildren Timothy and Lonnie Brown; and great grandchild Leah Brown. Also survived by many step grandchildren and great grandchildren, and 10 nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death her sisters Shirley “Jackie” Kimmins and Virginia Lee Caffery.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2019, 12 Noon at Pixley Funeral Home, 3530 Auburn Rd., Auburn Hills. Rev. Barney Odoerfer officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11 a.m. to time of the funeral. Interment at Highland Cemetery.
