John Hamilton Muir

After graduating from Wayne State, John spent most of his career as a Fuels and Lubricants Engineer for Chrysler in Highland Park. He joked every morning, "Off to build Plymouth Valiants."

After raising a large family in Rochester, Michigan, he married Dorothy and welcomed her family into his.

John and Dorothy retired to a great life in Dryden and later in Sterling Heights, Michigan. They enjoyed golfing, tending their garden, traveling, and spending time with family.

John is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Muir; sons John (Heather) and Eric (Rachelle), daughter Kelly, and daughter-in-law Lisa; step-children Jim (Kathy) Blauvelt and Cynthia (Steve) Willis; grandchildren Brody, Brennan (Britney), Alyvia, Justin, Jayson, Eileen (Josh), Ally, Amy (Raymond), and Jonathan (Emily); great-grandchildren, Henry and Lucy; and niece and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary “Daisy” Muir, his brother George, and his sons Kenneth (Lisa) and Stephen.

He never fully recovered from the heartbreak of losing his sons Kenneth and Stephen, but they were kept close through our conversations and beautiful memories.

A lifelong Wolverine, he loved rooting for Michigan football and basketball. Like all long-suffering Detroit Lions fans, he enjoyed Sundays watching football and rehashing the game afterward.

He and Dorothy spent their winters in Gulf Shores, Alabama, enjoying new friends, beach views, and golf with the Michigan Club. Later in life, they discovered the joys of cruising.

We'll all miss his warm sense of humor and the lifelong love and pride he felt for all of his family.
